MacBook battery life changes with age, workload and temperature, but a sudden change deserves attention. Short runtime, unexpected shutdowns, slow charging or a charger that disconnects can come from the battery, adapter, cable, charging port or power circuitry.
Signs the battery needs inspection
- The MacBook shuts down while the battery still shows charge.
- The percentage changes quickly or stays stuck at one level.
- The laptop becomes unusually warm during light work.
- The trackpad or bottom case starts to lift.
A lifting case is not a normal battery-health warning. Stop charging the device and seek an assessment.
Check the whole charging path
Bring the original charger and cable if possible. A damaged cable or adapter can look like a laptop fault, while a dirty or loose port can prevent stable charging. The technician should check the battery, charging connection and power behaviour together before recommending a replacement.
Prepare your files
Back up your MacBook while it still starts. Note whether the problem appears only under heavy work or also while idle. If the device had a drop, liquid exposure or previous repair, include that information in the booking.
